What Exactly Is A Tourist Destination?

A tourist destination, according to the Webster’s Dictionary, is “a place or region that has great significance for tourists”. A tourist destination could be big, like a major city. It could also be small, such as a small coastal town or resort. In short, the word tourist destination is very subjective, and there is not really a universally accepted definition. But just what exactly is meant by a tourist spot?

For many people the definition of a tourist destination might include some destinations that have been recently visited, or tourist attractions that are providing something of value for visitors. But there could be another element to the overall definition as well. Some people might believe that a destination provides something of value even if it isn’t a physical location. For example, a luxury vacation home might draw a visitor primarily because of the experience of being in such a home.

Other elements that could be included as part of the definition of a tourist destination include climate and travel conditions, availability of transportation, entertainment options, dining and drinking options, employment opportunities, recreational opportunities, culture, language, sports and entertainment, culture, tourist attractions and facilities, infrastructure, culture and holiday parks. Many other factors contribute to the popularity of any given destination. The best approach would be to look at each of these areas in isolation and assess whether they provide a particular type of experience for visitors. Then draw your own conclusions. If there is a particular destination that fits all of these categories and more, then you have indeed discovered your ideal tourist destination!
